I had to clean out some dead branches from an area in my yard. The tops of the trees are beautiful and provide lots of privacy but the bottoms of the trees had lots of dead branches. I often noticed little birds hanging out in the trees. I thought these teacup bird feeders would be a great way to add to the empty space and bring more of those lovely little birds to the trees. I have a few more plans for this space as it leads to a pathway of wild blackberry bushes.
I purchased all the cups and saucers from a thrift shop. I also found beads and ribbons to use for hangers. The glue I picked up at a hardware store. I selected glue that was waterproof. A glue gun would work as well.
Have you stumbled on wish app on your instagram or twitter feed? Well, I came across it as a sponsored app and I decided to click that install button and then spent the next hour or more taking a look at all the products at low prices. Of course, when you think something is too good to be true you better do your research. So I researched the reviews on the company/site and watch a few videos on youtube. What I determined was most of the merchandise is from China and made quite cheap. Research tells me Wish is a glorified online dollar store. I also gathered that the clothing sizes were very small and you had to order 2-3 sizes up. As well you should only purchase products with consistent 5 star reviews.
I decided to take the plunge and order a few products
I received all products as promised. It took up to 4 weeks to get some items but they are very clear about that up front. Some customers complain of never receiving product but I did in fact receive everything I ordered. There were also complaints of not receiving the correct item ordered but once again I received everything as ordered. It is also important to read the find print on each item because what you see in the photo may not be all you get.
The first item I ordered was a pleather black jacket. It was 29CAD and free shipping. The jacket was small as expected but after I wore it once it seemed to loosed up around the shoulders. I really like the jacket, it will get some good wear.
I don’t tend to like wearing scarfs because I find them heavy and constricting. They are almost as bad as wearing a turtle neck. The reviews on this scarf talked about how light weight it was and I liked the colors. It was 3CAD and 2 S&H. On arrival, the colors were not as vibrant as the picture on wish, the material was thin which was good because it is comfortable to wear and bad because I can already tell it is not going to wear well. The fibres seem to move around in some spots and create small holes. I will wear this until it looks too shabby.
The other 2 items I ordered were a pair of earrings and a makeup brush. I was very disappointed with these items but wasn’t really surprised I should have listened to the reviews on the items.
I am not sure I would order from this site again. They have some interesting, neat stuff but the quality is poor and you could be taking a risk by not receiving anything at all. For me, spending a few extra dollars for better quality, correct sizing and guaranteed arrival is better money spent. However, it is kind of addicting to scroll through all their items so there may come a time I just hit that buy button.
Anyone else have an experience with WISH?
I am starting a new series called As seen on Pinterest. You know how it is. We spend a few hours on Pinterest pinning all these great wonderful ideas that we are never going to do, make, use, create. Sure we have great intentions. I know I do. But very few projects, meals etc.. do I actually do. So here is my chance to Do
AS SEEN ON PINTEREST
Have you seen this one and thought “so cheap” and “so easy” but yet all your earring are still all over your make up table and night end table. That was me until TODAY!
Found these two ice cube trays with tops! for $1.50 at the grocery store.
It took all of 10 minutes to wash these out and put my jewellery in.
The only question I have is why didn’t I do this much sooner?
A few weeks back Avon had a deal I couldn’t pass up; buy 5 lipsticks for $20.00. This was a perfect opportunity to get a lot of spring lip colors for a cheap price. I have been trying out all the shades for about 2 weeks now. The lipsticks are moisturizing and have fair to good staying power.

Here’s the plan. This is a basement reno since the main floor of the house has been done, in fact I think we are coming back around to the main floor cause the mental list is growing. Anyways, that is for another time. I should also say that we have hired someone to do this work and it is only going to be a small DIY project for us (painting, some design, decorating).
okay, the plan
We are taking out the existing “kids” tv/game room and turning it into a bedroom for my oldest son. His current bedroom is very small and has no closet. The window in the picture is where our home use to end before we put on an addition about 6 years ago.
The extension we put on was for a master bedroom suite (main level) and we never finished the basement portion of the addition. We have just used it for storage and for the kids to play hockey in. Now we are going to turn it into a large family room.
We are re-doing the bathroom because if I am going to be spending time in this new family room I need to have access to a nice washroom and so do the guests.
Alright-y, here we go. Good thoughts! Happy thoughts!
We are at it again….. home renovations. When you buy a 40 year old home it becomes almost part of the norm.
What I have learned about renovating on a real budget
1. Your not going to get everything you want, you may get about half of what you want (maybe).
2. Your end product is not going to be the centre spread of a designer magazine.
3. You have to make purchases on what you can afford. If you want to splurge on an item your are going to have to reduce on another.
4. You will be sticker shocked at the cost of trades and wonder why the hell you didn’t go to school for plumbing or electrical.
5. Unexpected costs will come up, you can count on this.
6. You will go over budget.
7. No matter how well you think you plan and have it all organized there will be delays.
8. No matter how well you think you plan and have it all organized you will be stressed.
9. It will take up to a year or more to have it decorated the way you would like. Since your budget is blown you have to buy one-two home decor pieces at a time.
10. You will have a nicely renovated space that you can enjoy with your family and friends.
